Spring Blooms at the Buttrick Garden

A string of warm weather and abundant rain have accelerated the Buttrick Gardens bloom sequence. Daffodils are nearly done, bleeding hearts are sending out valentine-like flowers, and iris buds are swelling.

If the weather remains warm, we expect to see irises starting to bloom by mid-May and peonies by the third week in May. We anticipate the peak blooms of iris and peony in late May.

Shortly thereafter, the Sunken Garden will become a symphony of blue, lavender, and pink delphinium, followed by pink and yellow foxgloves.

Our bee and butterfly pollinators and nectar-loving birds have returned. Be sure to look for the pair of Baltimore orioles nesting east of the garden beds in the large silver maple by the river.

Looking for a way to support the Buttrick Gardens? Here are three ways:

  • Join our crew of landscape volunteers every Wednesday morning! Join for one week or stop by regularly. Please contact Rachel Vincent at [email protected] for more information.
  • Give a Gift to the Gardens to ensure they are cared for by student gardeners and bloom all season long.
  • Take a Garden tour or join us via zoom, May-July 2025.
